Rancher Recipes

Family dinners are a tradition many Beef Farmers and Ranchers take part in after long days on the ranch, and of course those dinners include BEEF. May is Beef Month in South Dakota and the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) is excited to feature some of our hardworking South Dakota Ranchers and their favorite Ranch Recipes that they prepare for their friends and loved ones on the ranch.

No matter your lifestyle, we know that your days can be busy, so we set out to find some of the best Rancher recipes that make everyday life easier. It seems like we all take our turn at “Kitchen duty”, and why not find a BEEF recipe that’s quick, easy and most importantly delicious! These recipes have been passed on from generation to generation. Join us as we share those one-of-a-kind beef recipes!

Rachelle Schmidt, Clinic Manager for Avera Health and Owner/Operator of Schmidt Angus in Freeman, South Dakota submitted her family favorite BEEF recipe, Chicken Fried Steak with Homemade Gravy. As a BEEF producer, Schmidt knows the importance of consuming Beef in her everyday lifestyle, “Growing up Beef was always on the menu, and I think it absolutely contributed to my overall health, which allowed me to be involved in athletics and numerous other organizations. As an adult, working in both healthcare and on the farm, I need lasting energy- so I look for nutrient-dense food choices that will keep me full and focused- and that's BEEF. Beef has always been an excellent source of protein and supplies 10 essential nutrients including B-vitamins, zinc, and iron that support an active and healthy lifestyle. The nutrients in beef provide our bodies with the strength to thrive throughout all stages of life.”

Beef Farmers and Rancher take great pride bringing Beef from their pasture to your plate. Follow along with us during May Beef Month to learn more about their efforts of bringing a high-quality protein to your table.
