Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family and about your ranch?
I grew up in a diversified ranching and farming operation in Northwest North Dakota. My family was very involved in the Simmental and Sim-Angus business since the early 80s. My dad got an early start in making Simmental cattle solid colored, polled and black. We had a lot of success showing cattle both regionally and a national level with cattle that we raised and sold, as well as with cattle we showed ourselves. When I starting ranching on my own, I made the decision to raise cattle that had a good look to them, but also concentrated my efforts more into cattle that work in all segments of the beef industry.
In 2016 I made the move to Kadoka, South Dakota and married my wife, Amy. We don’t only run our registered cattle, but also help with Amy’s parent’s commercial cow/calf pair operation. We calve somewhere between 800 to 900 head of cows a year.
What do you want consumers to know about the Beef industry?
I would like the consumers to know that as an industry we strive to provide a nutrient rich product in a humane matter and with best practices in mind where the environment is concerned.
One word to describe your life as a rancher and why?
If I had to describe being a cattle rancher in one word, it would be Enjoyable.
